NCCIA busts network selling government officials’ data, four arrested
As per the information provided by the organisation, the investigation process has discovered that certain people operating within various institutions had been facilitating access to sensitive information present in governmental database servers through illegal means. According to the officials, sensitive data had been extracted from government databases illegally, after which they were disseminated to external parties, as part of the NCCIA child exploitation case.
The agency went further to state that personal information belonging to members of the public had even been illegally leaked to foreign intelligence agencies. In essence, the issue constitutes a major cybercrime problem where sensitive information is being misused, linked to the State Life Pakistan security issue.
Investigation and Government Response
Officials said a special committee has been formed in collaboration with the State Bank of Pakistan to handle cybercrime-related cases more effectively. The NCCIA also confirmed that action is being taken against government officials suspected of involvement in the illegal data-sharing network. Authorities have directed all government institutions to strengthen their data security systems and prevent unauthorized access to sensitive databases. They stressed that protecting national data is a shared responsibility of all departments and individuals with system access.
Ongoing Cybercrime Operations
The NCCIA said multiple cybercrime investigations are also ongoing across other regions of the country. These include operations against fake call centres, online scam networks, and digital fraud schemes targeting citizens. Officials added that forensic analysis of seized mobile phones and digital devices is currently underway to identify more suspects and uncover further links. More arrests are expected as the investigation continues. The agency also emphasised the importance of public awareness about cybercrime. It said strict action will continue under its zero-tolerance policy against data leaks and illegal data trading activities. News source eTimes Pakistan.
