Microsoft Corporation has introduced another quantum chip called Majorana 2. According to the company, this chip can be considered more reliable than the previous one developed by Microsoft Corporation. In fact, the chip may become the starting point for constructing quantum computers in the future.
Microsoft Says Majorana 2 Quantum Chip Is 1,000x More Reliable Than Previous Version
It should be noted that quantum computers differ significantly from conventional computers. In other words, quantum computers utilize special bits called qubits, which are capable of solving complicated computational tasks considerably faster than traditional computers.
Indeed, conventional computers utilize bits representing 0 or 1. On the contrary, quantum computers have qubits acting both as 0 and 1 simultaneously. Therefore, they are extremely efficient in solving challenging tasks. On the other hand, qubits are very sensitive and fragile elements. Thus, any vibration or temperature changes lead to errors. In this regard, the construction of reliable quantum computers has remained a serious problem for researchers, especially in the development of AI Chip for Personal Computers 2026.

Majorana 2 Chip Improvement
Microsoft says its new Majorana 2 chip is a big step forward. The company claims its qubits now last much longer than before. On average, they stay stable for about 20 seconds, while earlier versions only lasted milliseconds.
This means the new chip is about 1,000 times more reliable than the older version. Microsoft likened the development to having a phone battery that will last for years rather than charging it daily. However, at present, the processor has only 12 qubits, though according to Microsoft, there should be millions more in the coming chips that would create a true quantum computer, along with advancements in next gen 6G communication chip.
Furthermore, Microsoft utilized AI technology in designing the processor. With its AI assistance, scientists were able to conduct simulations and develop materials for use in creating the processor. Among the changes included changing from aluminum to lead. This step helped in isolating the processor from any external interference. The company says AI helped speed up research, but human scientists still made the final decisions.
Timeline and Future Plans
Microsoft now believes it could build a useful commercial quantum computer by 2029. This is faster than its earlier plan, which aimed for 2033. The company says this future machine could help solve big real-world problems, such as improving medicine, energy, food production, and environmental research. According to the experts, this is an intensely competitive area, with companies like IBM, Google, and Amazon also making strides in developing comparable technology.
However, despite all these developments, experts state that quantum computing is currently in its very nascent stages. There are some who want further verification of the findings as there have been some results that have not gone through independent validation yet. While it appears that Microsoft is willing to share some information with its research partners, some technical data may not yet be available in public domain.

With Majorana 2 chip, the stability and computational power of quantum computers have been greatly improved. Though there is still much to achieve, Microsoft believes that this invention would be able to solve problems unsolvable by today’s standard computers someday. Meanwhile, researchers all over the world will study its capabilities further to see what else it can do. News source eTimes Pakistan.
