Telegram Still Faces Regulatory Attention
Telegram is under investigation by regulators in several countries. The inquiries focus on illegal content shared by some users. In April, the UK communications regulator, Ofcom, began its investigation following allegations that the Telegram app hosted child abuse content. Telegram strongly denied the allegations. The company said it has nearly stopped the public spread of such illegal content since 2018 by using advanced detection tools.
Earlier this year, Australia’s online safety regulator fined Telegram. The company delayed its responses to questions about how it handled child abuse content and violent extremist material. Telegram promises to keep improving its safety infrastructure while also swiftly dealing with any violation of its policy. The most recent App Store ban was only brief due to the prompt action by Telegram to remove the alleged content. News source eTimes Pakistan.
