Apple is reportedly expanding Apple Tap to Pay on iPhone across its retail stores. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company plans to let more Apple Store employees accept payments using iPhone 16 devices. Apple is also said to be testing the feature in some of its stores. The company has not officially announced a wider rollout yet. However, the report suggests Apple is preparing to expand the service.
Apple Stores Could Expand Tap to Pay on iPhone Service
Apple introduced Tap to Pay on iPhone in 2022. The feature was designed for merchants and small businesses. It lets them accept contactless payments without using extra payment devices. Customers can simply tap their iPhone, Apple Watch, credit card, debit card, or another contactless payment method on the seller’s iPhone. The payment is completed using Near-field communication (NFC) technology, the same secure system used by Apple Pay.
As all functions are performed by the iPhone, businesses don’t need to buy a special POS terminal and an external card reader. This way of making payments becomes much more convenient. Some people are working in the Apple Store who already use iPhones 14 to purchase goods from customers. They don’t need to take a special Bluetooth credit card reader with them because they can make payments using an iPhone.

Apple is gradually replacing its older Bluetooth payment terminals with Tap to Pay on iPhone. More Apple Store employees are now using this feature to accept customer payments. This allows them to help customers complete purchases from different parts of the store. Separately, Apple is also expanding its retail presence with the Apple Official Flagship Store Pakistan, giving customers another official way to buy Apple products.
Why Apple Is Switching to iPhone 16
As per Mark Gurman, the company aims to offer its Apple Store employees iPhone 16 devices. The main reason behind this improvement in equipment is that the iPhone 14 sometimes fails to read some metal payment cards, including the American Express Platinum Card and the Chase Sapphire Reserve.
According to the report, the iPhone 16 can read these cards more easily. This provides a smoother payment experience and helps reduce checkout problems. As a result, employees may no longer need to carry extra payment terminals while serving customers. This could make shopping easier for both customers and staff. Separately, Apple is also expected to introduce New Apple Pencil Models next year, according to recent reports.

Using Apple Tap to Pay on iPhone will accelerate the process of payments within Apple Stores. The employees will be able to perform transactions in any part of the store without going to a regular checkout desk. The customers will have various ways to pay for their products. They can use an iPhone, an Apple Watch, a contactless credit card, a contactless debit card, and any other payment mode that is NFC-enabled. The reason behind using the Apple payment technology is that the transactions are going to be secured. From the point of view of the staff, they will not have to carry additional payment equipment with them.
Apple Has Not Confirmed the Rollout Yet
However, there has been no confirmation yet regarding when more stores and workers will get the improved payment system. This is because the information was obtained from Mark Gurman, who works at Bloomberg and has a reputation of reporting news regarding future releases by Apple. News source eTimes Pakistan.
