Elon Musk has announced that Grok 4.5 has entered private beta testing. The new AI model is now being tested at Tesla and SpaceX. These companies are the first to use it before a wider release. Elon Musk shared the update on June 28, 2026. He described it as another important step in xAI’s plan to improve its artificial intelligence technology. For now, Grok 4.5 is available only to selected internal teams. xAI has not announced a public release date.
Grok 4.5 Begins Private Testing at Tesla and SpaceX, Musk Says
Musk noted that Grok 4.5 is based on xAI’s V9 model that is built using 1.5 trillion parameters. Musk claimed that this model was trained until May 26, 2026. After completing the first round of training, xAI also trained the model using the data from the Cursor programming interface. Musk said this second training phase will improve the model’s performance on technical tasks. These include coding and other engineering-related work.
Musk Shares Early Performance Results
Musk also shared his first impressions of the model’s performance. He said early testing shows Grok 4.5 performs close to Claude Opus. In some tests, it may even outperform Anthropic’s leading AI model. He added that reinforcement learning is helping the model improve every day by making its answers more accurate over time. In separate news, the Grok AI Iran Strikes Report has also drawn attention after recent legal developments involving xAI and Grok.
However, independent experts have not yet verified these performance claims. xAI has also not released official benchmark scores, a system card, or detailed testing methods. Because of this, the reported performance should be viewed as the company’s own assessment until outside testing becomes available.

Why Tesla and SpaceX Were Chosen First
Instead of releasing Grok 4.5 to the public, xAI first deployed the model at Tesla and SpaceX. These companies are the first to test the new AI system. Both handle complex engineering projects every day, making them ideal environments to evaluate the technology before a wider release. Testing it in their own firms is also beneficial because the firm gets an opportunity to identify errors and improve the software before making it available to many users. They also have the chance to observe how the software works in the practical engineering tasks rather than laboratory conditions.
AI Competition Continues to Grow
Musk also shared plans for faster AI development in the future. He said SpaceX expects to introduce new AI models throughout the year. Each model will be trained from scratch every month. If this plan continues, xAI could update its AI systems more often than many competing companies.
This also highlights how rapidly competition in AI is increasing. Tech companies are investing heavily in advanced AI that can help with coding, research, engineering, and business tasks. Building stronger AI systems has become just as important as having powerful computing resources. The latest X Grok AI Strategy Update 2026 also shows how companies are changing their AI plans to improve performance and expand real-world use cases.

The launch of Grok 4.5 Private Testing marks another important step for xAI. Testing the model inside Tesla and SpaceX allows the company to improve its performance before a wider rollout. While Musk believes the model performs at a very high level, independent testing has not yet confirmed those claims. For now, Grok 4.5 is available only to internal teams. xAI has not announced a public release date. News source eTimes Pakistan.
