Scientists believe SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket component crashed into the Moon. The rocket body had been drifting through space since January 2025. SpaceX Rocket Debris Believed to Have Crashed Into the Moon
The rocket stage was part of a mission that launched a Firefly Aerospace lunar lander. It was expected to reach the Moon at about 5,400 miles per hour (8,690 km/h). Scientists said the impact would likely occur near Einstein Crater. Scientists Waited for Confirmation
However, it was hard to confirm the impact immediately since there were no spacecrafts that were in orbit of the moon and could have captured pictures of the impact.
